Overview

Federer had a scare in the initial stages of his third round clash as the Swiss tennis ace lost the first set to Marcel Granollers. However, the 33-year-old fought back to level the match after the end of the second set.

With momentum on his side, Federer continued to cruise in the third and fourth set as he went on to win the third round clash of the US Open comfortably against the Spaniard. He won the match 4-6, 6-1, 6-1, 6-1.

Federer dropped his first set of the fourth Grand Slam event of the year against Granollers as he won the previous encounters in straight sets. The former World No 1 would be hoping for another straight set win at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Bautista Agut had no trouble in registering a victory over his third round opponent. The 26-year-old Spaniard defeated Adrian Mannarino in straight sets 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 to seal a place against Federer on Tuesday.

Just like his fourth round opponent, Bautista Agut has also dropped only one set so far in the ongoing US Open.
