Residents of Shimla turned out to be lucky the second time since February last when a monkey rained currency notes in the hill town's Ram Bazaar and Ganj Bazaar area.

Once again on Sunday afternoon, a monkey started raining notes in Kamna Devi area near Bolleauganj in Shimla. Eyewitnesses said the monkey, with a bundle of notes, was first spotted on a roof top. After throwing some notes, the monkey climbed a nearby tree and resumed his job.

"After raining currency notes from a roof and then from a tree, the monkey ran towards the jungle. The ecstatic people who were collecting notes on ground followed him. They chased the monkey further and continued to collect the notes. This continued for around two hours till the bag with notes was empty," said Rajesh Kumar, a local resident.

Enquiries later revealed that the 'Robin Hood', as some locals jokingly called the simian, had stolen the cash bag from an under-construction building. A contractor named Vinod had put money in a bag in one of the rooms from where the monkey is suspected to have picked it up. Labourers from the construction site chased the monkey but in vain. The contractor said the bag had Rs 10,000 to be paid as wages.
