Registrar of companies’ bail plea rejected
CHENNAI: The principal special court for CBI cases on Monday quashed the bail plea of Tamil Nadu registrar of companies (RoC) M Manu Needhi Cholan, arrested on bribery charges, and remanded him in police custody for three days.
The court had last week remanded Cholan in judicial custody till September 8. It had adjourned Cholan’s bail plea and the petition of the CBI deputy superintendent of police seeking police custody of the RoC to Monday.

Justice J Krishnamoorthy on Monday said the CBI had made a satisfactory case for custodial interrogation. “Taking into consideration the facts and circumstances of the case and the material recovered from the accused, custodial interrogation is necessary to complete the investigation in an effective manner,” the judge said.
The court directed jail officers to hand over Cholan to the ACB from September 3, at 2pm to September 6, till 2pm. It also asked the ACB to make arrangements for Cholan like food and medical assistance if needed. He said the CBI could not mentally or physically torture Cholan.
The court allowed Cholan to meet his advocate for 20 minutes from 10am to 11am and between 5pm and 6pm.
The CBI has to produce Cholan before the court at 2pm on September 6, the judge said.
