2 teachers held for ‘caning’ teenagers get police custody

Police said investigations are going on and they were collecting statements and evidence in the case.

The two teachers of Vagad Gurukul International School, arrested for abetting the suicide of three students, were remanded to police custody for a day on Monday. The two were arrested after the bodies of three students of std IX were found in Sukh river behind the school last week.

The two were re-arrested on Monday in another, a second case of assault, after one more student alleged that he was also caned by them. The accused were produced in the court in the first case and were granted judicial custody, however, in the second case, court ordered police custody for one day for further investigation in the case.

Police said investigations are going on and they were collecting statements and evidence in the case.

ASP Krishna Kokate said that they are scanning the CCTV footage of the school to find out whether thealleged caning incidents were captured. “We have not given clean-chit to the school staffers or management,” Kokate added.

Virar police said three students, Prahul Patel, Meet Chadwa and Kushal Dadha who were studying in class 9 at the Virar school, went missing on Augsut 25, and their bodies were found after two days in river behind the school.
