Melvin Gordon injured hip vs. LSU

College Football, Wisconsin Badgers

Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon had a hip flexor injury that limited him in the second half of the Badgers' loss to LSU, coach Gary Andersen said Monday.

Gordon rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on his first 13 attempts against LSU on Saturday, but he had only three carries in the final 29 minutes as Wisconsin squandered a 24-7 lead and lost 28-24.

Andersen said after the game that Gordon was fine, but Gordon acknowledged Monday that it occurred on a second-quarter run and that he wasn't seriously hurt.

"I should have let them know, let Coach A know and stepped up and told them, 'Look. I need to be in there,'" Gordon said. "I put that on myself."

Andersen said he could tell something wasn't right on a 63-yard run by Gordon to open the third quarter.

"It was very obvious he pulled up," Andersen said. "We were trying to be smart with him."

Starting defensive end Konrad Zagzebski, who was carted off against LSU and taken to a hospital after suffering a neck injury, might return this week against Western Illinois.

Starting nose tackle Warren Herring is day-to-day with a knee injury that caused him to leave the LSU game.

Andersen also said Tanner McEvoy will remain Wisconsin's starting quarterback against Western Illinois despite completing just eight of 24 passes with two interceptions against LSU.
