As of 8 p.m., traffic was stop-and-go for 5 miles, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation's website.

A one-vehicle crash around 3:15 p.m. that hospitalized one person caused the backup from Black Canyon City to Table Mesa Road, though the crash was in the median and no lanes were blocked, according to a spokesman with the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Multiple crashes Saturday on I-17 caused an 18-mile backup in the same area.
