Man killed after running across Joburg highway

Johannesburg - A man was hit by a car and killed when running across the N12 highway in Mondeor, south of Johannesburg, paramedics said on Monday.

The man, in his 30s, was found on Sunday night, ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

"ER24 paramedics arrived on scene and found the patient lying on the grass between the two highways," he said.

"Paramedics assessed the man and found that he had already succumbed to his severe injuries."

The driver of the car that hit him was not injured.

"The driver told the SA Police Service that he apparently did not notice the man running across the highway, and was not able to stop in time."
