Amarchand Mangaldas has opened a new office in Gurgaon with four Delhi partners – Amit Kumar, Ranjan Negi, Ravindra Bandhakavi and Saurav Kumar – “involved” in the office.
According to a press release from the firm, its eighth office “reflects the growing needs of the business community for quality legal services in their vicinity, and the Firm seeks to keep providing top quality services in new locations on the legal map of India”.
Delhi managing partner Shardul Shroff commented in the statement: “The new expansion will involve four Partners, including – Mr. Amit Kumar, Mr. Ranjan Negi, Mr. Ravindra Bandhakavi and Mr. Saurav Kumar, along with several lawyers at all levels (associates and lateral). The focus will be entirely on servicing the business, banking, and commercial community of Gurgaon, and penetrating into our untapped market in and around the rapidly demanding and upscale growth of the region.”
Update: The four partners will move to Gurgaon full-time, confirmed an Amarchand spokesperson.
J Sagar Associates’ (JSA) headquarters is based in Gurgaon, while AZB & Partners also has a Gurgaon satellite office to its Delhi office.
Amarchand 3.0 on target?
The press release stated that the firm now had 705 lawyers, including 86 partners, nationally, with Shroff adding that “we may surprise ourselves by crossing 800 lawyers this year”.
In 2012 Amarchand unveiled an ambitious plan to grow to 1,000 lawyers and 100 partners by 2017, targeting a Rs 1,000 crore annual turnover.
In 2012, the firm was at 555 lawyers, including 59 partners.
The firm now has offices in New Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad and Chennai, according to the press release.

Lateral is a "level", eh! Freudian slip about how Amarchand treats most laterals, with a few exceptions?
before opening of this office, commercial world of Gurgaon were unaware of quality legal services.
Good luck with finding Gurgaon based lawyers. Shouldn't be difficult as you will place "quality" after "address of the applicant".
Once again, good luck on "quality" staffing with your present priorities :-)
P.S. Since you like things "a little easy", ever heard the saying You are what you eat; so don't go cheap, fast or easy? It applies to hiring policies, unless a firm's a small shack or a glorified LPO.
;)

The Partner is quoted in his own press release, LOL.
And from what I know, all press releases get vetted by a partner at nearly all firms, and this one certainly would have.
My sources tell me that Amit Kumar is an equity partner and also heads Japan Desk in Delhi region. Ravindra Bandkavi is phenomenal corporate lawyer, who was earlier in Mumbai office and shifted to Delhi quite some take back. Saurav has been recently made partner and is quite good with his work. Ranjan heads the copyrights and trademark side of Amarchand's IP practice. They have also shifted some senior tax guy who is not a partner, not sure what his name is.
In addition to partners they have shifted some 10 principal associates, several senior associates and associates. They also plan to hire several new lawyers. They have lot of space as they have taken an entire floor of the tower.
So it most certainly is not a TSG office or an LPO setup. Amarchand seems serious about expansion and it would be wise to take note and not write them off with ill informed assumptions.
Who told you DLF goes for AMSS Mumbai? Wrong info and count me in, for this info. But, you are correct on the subject matter!!
Arey AMSS Bhaiya,ek office Benaras me khol do, ab to Modi ji bhi Benaras aa gye hai :P
The name should be "patna wali hoon" and not "patne wali hoon". I guess u got the POint
The quality of comments on LI are eye popping. They reflect well the quality of people now working in law firms.
Please, some quality control. At least here if not in our work places.
Simple solution - don't read the comments. This is not supposed to be SCC Online
This month itself I heard 4 freshers in Mumbai TSG quit within a week of joining due to ill-treatment by seniors. Seems like a big problem in AM Mumbai.
Now, even Gurgaon corporate in-house counsels want delhi law firm so that we can leave early or own residing place therein as well as because of senior Advocates/courts are in delhi only.
So, lets forget this reason and AMSS can do better but if opened for clients then I dont think so!!
About 1000 or whatever, in the end you gonna recruit those only who has jack!!
And of course AMSS recruits by reference (jack for your understanding) for sure else they will have to deal with prolific English writers. I hope you got who I am refering to Mr. IN-THE-HOUSE??
There is a difference between information and comparison Mr. Guest. Zeus Law and AMSS cant be compared but Zeus opened for Gurgaon SEZ client and as per AMSS has opened for some local clients, as well. So on the basis of it [reason], the same can be compared. Also, in Gurgaon Real Estate is one of the most powerful business for any law firm though I am no one to interfere but law firms should try to boost on real estate clients, if in Gurgaon.
Well Law is an ass with all about common sense. So if you dont know english you cant win law. Knowing law without English is like drafting letters rather than petition or an agreement. Anyway, my english still sucks and if you are referring to Mr. In The house....wrong no dialled, bro!!
About recruitment, its their firm, let them do the way they want..Life can be progressed through any channels, if you have the talent!!
Quoting Guest:
Primary work is extracting data from documents and putting them in tabular format, preparing summary of documents, xeroxing, indexing, and all types of useless work. Their only job is to do due diligence and anything which does not require application of brains.
They are all searching for job openings in other places, with the hope that TSG experience will do wonders. A lot of them have already quit out of frustration without any job in hand.
I wonder how the TSG experience matters or adds any CV value? Do not get trapped by the AMSS brand name and apply for this job. It's a painful experience without any element of learning!
Jugaad / SOFT skills can obviously get jobs at better places.
Are you an insider ?
I won't be surprised if "transfer to Gurgaon" is being used as a threat, especially against junior associates. In fact, I'll be surprised to hear it isn't happening!
So, its a parts and parcels and lets wish all the best to this esteemed law firm.
