The Grenfell RSL Sub Branch has formed a committee to liaise with the community in order to organise a fitting ceremonial tribute to mark this historic occasion and to honour the Grenfell men who fought in, and those who paid the ultimate sacrifice, in this war.
The activities that will lead up to this event are listed below.
- A Citizen’s committee be formed to plan the involvement of many groups.
- Plans to locate and mark the unmarked graves of WW1 soldiers in the Weddin Shire is in progress as has been announced previously.
- It is anticipated that audio and video of the events will be recorded thanks to Clive Johnson
- It is suggested that a Roll Up, Roll Up WW1 concert be held on the Saturday night (Nevin Hughes to organise).
- The Schools, Scouts, Red Cross and Churches be approached to participate in the abovementioned concert.
- This will be a community recognition so a civilian M/C may be used. The Parade Marshall will be an RSL member. There will be a regular, updated RSL Service.
- Special mention should be made of a female and male who took part in WW1 with a Grenfell connection.
- A Waler horse with empty saddle etc has been offered, with boots reversed in stirrups to symbolise a departed soldier, to lead the march.
- A display of WW1 equipment, medals and weapons will be shown.
- All the above was put to an RSL meeting on August 12th and was adopted.
- A volunteer has already started to contact (if possible) descendants of all the names on the Grenfell Cenotaph, to invite them back to Grenfell for Anzac 2015.
- A third flagpole will be installed to display the New Zealand Flag along with the British and Australian flags on the day.
Thanks to All.
