A complaint has been lodged by officials of the Union Salt department at the Kanjur Marg police station on the development of a plot for the construction of an amusement park at Bhandup east. The park, which was initiated by MNS MLA Mangesh Sangale, and will be funded by the state, is under the jurisdiction of the salt department and no permission has been taken for the work.

On Saturday, MNS chief Raj Thackeray carried out the stone-laying ceremony on the plot measuring 20,590 sq mtrs on Saturday. The amusement park, set to be constructed in the Bhandupeshwar Kund near Bhandup (E), will be at a cost of Rs9 crore.

The complaint letter stated that the plot is owned by the salt dept of the union govt and has been leased to two separate companies for manufacturing salt, for a period of 99 years, which is valid till 2016. "Since no permission has been taken from the salt dept for the work, it can be taken as unauthorised work on govt land and this needs to be prevented," the letter stated.

Requesting cooperation for protecting the land from misuse, the letter further read, "From the law and order point of view, please look into the matter and initiate suitable action."

An official from the department, on condition of anonymity, said, "We checked the plot and it very much comes under our jurisdiction. If the state is funding the project, the dept concerned should have taken permission from us. But, we had no clue about the entire project."

Former mayor, Datta Dalvi asked, "Why aren't they showing the permissions they have?"

Nishikant Tungar, senior PI, Kanjurmarg police station, explained, "Doors of the courts are open for everyone. They can approach the judiciary and get proper justice by placing all the facts in front of them. They should get proper order from the court seeking police help and we will act accordingly."
