MYSORE: The state government will reach out to maharani Pramoda Devi Wadiyar next week, seeking her cooperation and guidance for the Dasara festival.
Revenue minister V Srinivas Prasad, who heads the empowered Dasara executive committee, on Sunday said that he will meet the maharani at Mysore Palace and invite her to Dasara celebrations. "We'll seek her guidance for successful celebrations," he stated.
The minister said that the maharani has asked them to shift the location of elephants coming in the second batch. "It will be done," he told reporters.
Traditionally, 7-8 elephants which come to the city in the second batch are housed near the Balrama Gate next to Sri Bhuvaneshwari Temple. The Mysore royal family culminates the Dsara festival by visiting the temple to offer Shami puja on Vijayadashami. The seven elephants coming in the second batch will arrive here in the second week of September.
Prasad said that the government will invite governor Vajubhai Rudabhai Vala after he takes up his assignment on Monday. The minister defended the delay in announcing the schedule of events associated with the 10-day festival, saying that it will be done after nominating non-official officials to various sub-committees.
