Liaqat Jatoi again quits PML-N

KARACHI - Former Sindh chief minister Liaqat Ali Khan Jatoi has once against parted ways with the PML-Nawaz, which he had joined before the 2013 general elections.
Talking to a private news channel Sunday, Jatoi informed that he first resigned from the post of Chief Coordinator and then from the chief of the provincial election committee of the PML-N Sindh. He complained that he has neither demanded any post in the government nor in the party but Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif did not even give him time of meeting for the last nine months.
Jatoi recalled that Nawaz had assured him of taking onboard about all the decisions to resolve the issues of the people of Sindh as well as his constituency, so he had merged his new party ‘Awami Ittehad’ in the PML-N. He expressed regret for Nawaz Sharif, who according to him, forgotten all his promises. “The resolving of the problems and reservations is far away but despite his efforts, even Nawaz Sharif did not find time to meet him after holding the office of prime minister,” he complained. He claimed that all the people including Mumtaz Bhutto, Shirazi brothers of Thatta and others who had joined the PML-N are disappointed with the party leaders who are not even ready to hear their reservations and problems.
To a query, Jatoi said that Asif Zardari did nothing against him but the local PPP leaders were involved in his political victimisation. “I want to forget and forgive all these political enmities with the PPP,” he added.
Son of popular pro-democracy leader Abdul Hameed Khan Jatoi, Mr Liaqat Jatoi was elected to the National Assembly of Pakistan for the first time in 1977 and also served as member of the Federal Council (Majlis-e-Shoora) in the regime of former military dictator Ziaul Haq.
Jatoi also won the elections in 1985, 1990 and 1997 as member Sindh Assembly. After the1997 elections, he was chosen as the Sindh chief minister, who was replaced with the governor rule due to worsening law and order situation in Karachi. He was in the front line in leaving the PML-N after military coup of then Army chief Pervez Musharraf in 1999 and continuously served in the cabinet as a federal minister.
However, after returning of Nawaz Sharif in the country, Jatoi rejoined the PML-N and lost the general elections consecutively in 2008 and 2013. It is worth mentioning here that changing the parties by Liaqat Jatoi, Mumtaz Bhutto and others will not leave any impact in their electoral constituency as they were facing defeat for years.
