Paharis project demand of ST status to community

RAJOURI. Aug 31: Pahari community in a one day convention held here today strongly projected the demand of granting Pahari status to the community and urged upon the Government to implement the Cabinet decision  No. 159/1989 in which State Government had strongly recommended to the Centre grant of ST status to Paharis.
The speakers including Shahbaz Khan,  Vijay Kochar, Haji Rehman Mirza, Shashi Bhushan and others also extended gratitude the State Government for announcing 5 % and 2 % reservation which has been approved in both houses of the Legislature and pinned hopes that new Government at the Centre would accept the pending demand of the Pahari people. They said that Paharis have been struggling since long but their demand could not be addressed till today.
They also acknowleged the role of political leaders of the area including MLAs and former Ministers  Mohd Din Bandey, Murtaza Khan,  M A Sagar, Ravinder Sharma, Vibodh Gupta, Rashpal Singh, Dr Shehnaz ganaie, Jahangir Mir, Aijaz Jan, M A Bukhari and others for the cause. The speakers said that not only Poonch and Rajourti, parts of Uri, Keran and Karnah are also part of  Pahari belt and they should also be accorded the same status. They further said that several Pahari Ministers raised the issue but the people from this community could not get justice. In view of the topography, economic condition of  the people of this area, the Paharis deserve ST status and the people of this belt  would  continue their struggle to get the ST status, they maintained.
