JAMMU, Aug 31: A new political party in the name and style of  United Democratic Party (UDP) was launched today.
Briefing about the party formation, convener of the party, Manjit Singh said the party was formed by sizeable noted and intellectual personalities from all sections of the society, who decided to come on one platform on the long pending demand of Sikh community for having its own political party with definite agenda.
He said the party will rise to the aspirations of the people irrespective of caste, creed, religions and sections and will fight tooth and nail to defeat the nefarious designs of disgruntled politicians and against the negative role of the regional as well as National parties towards the pathetic conditions of the common masses particularly the minorities and those belonging to socially backward classes.
Manjit Singh also announced the names of adhoc committee members of the party which included Kuldeep Singh as president, Purshotam Kumar and Sukhdev Singh as vice-presidents, Makhan Singh as general secretary, Ravinder Singh and Kulwant Singh Bhatti as secretaries, Harbhajan Singh Raina as treasurer, Amarjit Singh Babloo, Jagjit Singh and Baldev Singh as publicity secretaries and Manjit Singh, Ajitpal Singh, Hakumat Singh and Mohan Singh as party spokespersons.
He also disclosed that party is going to fight the upcoming State Assembly elections from Jammu Province with Kuldeep Singh as its candidate from Gandhi Nagar Assembly Constituency. The other candidates will be declared later on, he added.
Briefing the main aims and objectives of the party, Manjit Singh said the party will fight for providing minority status to deserving communities particularly the Sikh community, permanent settlement of refugees and reservation of seats to the displaced persons of 1947 in State Assembly.
