Students match wits in nature quiz

Guwahati: A total of 22 schools from various parts of the state matched their wits at the Assam city-level Wild Wisdom Quiz of World Wide Fund (WWF) for Nature-India.
The quiz, organized in association with the ministry of environment and forest and Central Board of Secondary Education, was held this week in the auditorium of Royal Global School, Guwahati.
The city-level quiz competition was conducted in 30 cities across India this year reaching out to over 15,000 students.

Along with the Middle School Quiz (VI to VIII) from where winners qualify for the national-level quiz, two other categories of quiz competitions for Junior School (Classes III to V) and an online quiz for High School (Classes IX to XII) were also conducted.
“Wild Wisdom is a unique opportunity for students to deepen their sense of wonder about the natural world and enhance their knowledge about India’s flora and fauna,” said Archita Baruah Bhattacharyya, senior programme officer of WWF-India’s Assam and Arunachal Pradesh state office.
The top five scorers of the junior school and the middle school were selected for the final city level quiz.
Don Bosco school, Guwahati, won the Middle school Quiz. They will represent Assam in the national final to be held in New Delhi on October 1 during Wildlife Week. The top three teams of the national final will win a trip to a nature camp near Rajaji National Park in the Shivalik Hills.

The finalists for the middle level quiz were Maria’s Public School, Don Bosco School, Guwahati, Sampoorna Kendriya Vidyalaya Dibrugarh, KV Borjhar and St Stephen’s School, Guwahati.
The schools that qualified for the finals from the junior level were Maria Public School, Maharshi Vidyamandir School - Rajgarh, Don Bosco School Guwahati, Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti and St Stephen’s School, Guwahati. In the final, in a closely contested competition conducted by quizmaster Abhra Das, Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti, Guwahati came out as the junior level champion.
The second and third positions were claimed by Don Bosco School and St Stephen’s School.
