36 SIMs found with Rakibul Hussain Khan

Police raid house of shooter’s spouse as controversy takes political turn

Patna: The Jharkhand police on Sunday conducted search operations at the residence of ‘love jihad’ accused Rakibul Hassan Khan alias Ranjit Singh Kohli and seized 36 SIM cards, 15 mobile phone handsets, two computer CPUs and a VIP car beacon among other items.

Khan, 38, who has been in a three-day police custody along with his mother after they were arrested in Delhi, was with the police teams during the raids.

“We will verify all these mobile phone SIM cards and examine the CPUs? contents and the documents seized. A CD containing video footage of Kohli and Tara’s wedding was also recovered,” police said.

Political implications of the raging controversy, dubbed as ‘love jihad’, became evident when BJP’s leader of Opposition in the state Assembly Raghubar Das, visited Shahdeo at her parents’ home and promised that BJP would bear all the costs for her preparations to win a gold medal in the Olympic Games in 2016.

Describing the shooter as “our sister” Mr Das, also said that his party would soon offer her Rs 1 lakh to continue her practice in rifle shooting.

JMM supremo Sibu Soren said that he would “ask for clarifications” from minority welfare minister Haji Hussain Ansari regarding the latter’s alleged associations with Rakibul.

Soren’s son and CM Hemant Soren has been under increased pressure to hand over the probe to the CBI in view of the alleged links Ansari and urban development minister Suresh Paswan had with the accused, a businessman known to have had close links with prominent politicians, bureaucrats and police.
