If you see a massive red ball in locations across the city this week, don't worry, it's supposed to be there.

The red ball is a travelling public art project that has been everywhere from Abu Dhabi to Barcelona to Sydney, Australia.

It arrived in Montreal Sunday and was set up inside the 20-storey Biosphere at Parc Jean Drapeau - a ball inside a ball.

It will be installed at Place des Arts on Monday.

The ball will move locations every day until Sept. 6.

The ball weighs 250 pounds, or just over 110 kilograms and is approximately 4.5 meters high.

"As RedBall travels around the world, people approach me on the street with excited suggestions about where to put it in their city. In that moment, the person is not a spectator but a participant in the act of imagination. I have witnessed it across continents, diverse age spans, cultures, and languages, always issuing an invitation," explained artist Kurt Perschke on the art installation's website.

People who view the red ball are encouraged to post about it on social media, using the hashtag #RedBallProject
