TOI T20 School Soccer: Rosary High School outplays Hillwoods School Gandhinagar
AHEMDABAD: Visualize this. Rosary High School Baroda defender Mrunal Patel sends a long ball in for Leander Fernandes near the centre line slightly on the left. He dribbles past a defender and passes it half-time substitute Vinesh Rathwa down the line. Vinesh then gives a minus pass to an unmarked Jassa Singh in the middle. Jassa dodges an advancing defender and shoots a low grounder into the far corner of the net.
That was undoubtedly Rosary's best goal of the match. They scored four more showing better co-ordination both in attack and defence as last year's first round losers outplayed Hillwoods School Gandhinagar 5-0 in what turned out to be a one-sided encounter in the Times of India T20 Schoo Soccer in Ahmedabad on Sunday afternoon.
It was a bad start for Hillwoods after defender Kissan Sharma handled the ball in the penalty area to bag a yellow card and the resultant spot kick was easily converted by Regin Christy in the 4th minute of the game. Christy added one more during the run of play in the 30th minute.
Hillwoods didn't recover from the early setback and their game fell apart. The second goal actually summed up the whole scenario of the match. Hillwoods goal keeper Janmajay Patel misjudged the flight of a long throw by Mrunal Patel from the sideline. The ball bounced above his head and Rachit Chaudhari, who was standing behind the keeper just tapped it in. Rosary was too good and Hillwoods didn't look like putting up a fight today.
Regin Christy of Rosary High School Baroda, who was declared the player of the match said: “I didn't play last year but I remember we lost in the first round so we desperately wanted to do well this time. Hillwoods was also a good team but our co-ordination, understanding and execution all fell into place today. We hope to reach at least the final this time.”
