VADODARA: Salim Sheikh (45), a resident of Yakutpura area, was arrested by city crime branch on Sunday for stealing 13 autorickshaws from the city. Sheikh was arrested after a special team headed by crime branch inspector Pradeepsinh Jadeja got a tip-off. Sheikh, who was arrested near Fatehpura, admitted to have stolen 13 CNG autorickshaws from the city in the last seven months.
The city police also seized an auto-rickshaw worth Rs 45,000 and auto components from the residence of the accused.
The accused also admitted that he dismantled some auto-rickshaws and sold the components to scrap dealers. Sheikh stole auto-rickshaws from areas like Raopura, Sayajigunj, Karelibaug, and Fatehgunj.
Five complaints of auto theft were registered at the Sayajigunj police station, five at Raopura police station, two at Karelibaug police station, and one at Fatehgunj police station against the accused. The crime branch will interrogate the accused to ascertain whether he was involved in any other thefts.
