Four school students drown in Viswanatham

Four school students died at Viswanatham near Sivakasi on Sunday evening after drowning while swimming in a pond.

According to police, a class five student M. Arunpandian (10), a class eight student R. Rajapandian (13), a class eleven student M. Shanmugam (16) and a class ten student R. Prakash (15) had gone along with three other friends to take bath in a pond at Viswanatham around 5 p.m.

Less than fifteen minutes after they started swimming, the four boys drowned unable to swim properly, the police said. The other three boys who had accompanied them alerted the people nearby, who fished out the bodies.

The bodies were taken to Government Hospital, Sivakasi for post-mortem.
