Hiker dies on New Hampshire's Mount Jefferson
Hiker suffered medical emergency
A 63-year-old man died while hiking on Mount Jefferson Friday afternoon, New Hampshire Fish and Game officials say.
Gregory Larson of Maine was hiking with a group of friends when he experienced a medical emergency near the summit. According to officials, his friends performed CPR on him and immediately made calls after noticing he was in trouble.
Shortly after 1:30 p.m., Fish and Game officers, as well as a Mount Washington State Park volunteer, were notified and then began rescue efforts.
A D.H.A.R.T. helicopter team was first on scene, but despite multiple attempts to find a suitable landing zone, the team was unable to touch down near the patient due to difficult and steep terrain.
Eventually, both a team of officers that hiked down from the summit as well as a National Guard Helicopter from Concord were able to reach Larson.
Larson passed away during this rescue effort.
