Illegal structures razed in city

RAJKOT: Town planning department officials of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) demolished 13 encroachments in Shastrinagar area of the city on Friday. Officials said these illegal structures were obstructing the road widening project in the area near Nana Mava main road in ward number 13.
"Notices were issued to the people concerned in 2012 to vacate the place as the 24 metre road passes through the area but the encroachments remained there.Therefore, we demolished them. A vigilance team and other security personnel were present to ward off any untoward incident,'' said an official.
Officials said that ever since Vijay Nehra took over the charge of RMC Commissioner the demolition drive has accelerated and encroachments are being cleared for widening roads in the city.
