ME to determine day care baby’s cause of death

The Nassau County Medical Examiner is expected to determine the cause of death for a Queens baby whose family insists was dead when they picked her up from day care, police said Saturday.

Little Daniella Okoye, 14 months, was rushed on Friday to Franklin Hospital in Valley Stream, LI, where she was declared dead.

The child attended House of Tiny Tots day care in Jamaica for just five days when her dad, Simon, picked her up Friday night and found her already packed up in a car seat, a family friend said Saturday.

“Usually, when he gets there, his daughter comes out to welcome daddy. When he got there she was sleeping in her car seat. He said, ‘Why is she sleeping?’ The lady said she have her food and she went to sleep,” friend Edward Orjiogo said.

The father tried to wake the girl but couldn’t, the friend said. The family called 911.

The day care, which opened in February, has no history of violations, according to the state Office of Children and Family Services Web site. And the city Administration for Children’s Services has no record of problems with Daniella’s family, according to police sources, who said there were no signs of trauma on the child.

The day care did not return messages seeking comment.
