Congress demands Vadodara Municipal Corporation officials' removal from poll duties
VADODARA: The city unit of the Congress has demanded that the officials of the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) should be kept away from election duties during the Vadodara parliamentary bypolls. A letter in this regard was submitted to the district election officer by the party.
Shailesh Amin, the election agent for Congress candidate Narendra Ravat, stated in the letter that the deputy mayor of VMC Ranjan Bhatt was contesting in the polls and was in a position to influence VMC officials.
Amin added that it was possible that Bhatt may continue to hold the post of the deputy mayor after the polls and hence the VMC officials may be reluctant to take any action against her.
Amin pointed out that recently in the absence of the mayor, Bhatt was the in-charge mayor and hence had greater influence on VMC officials. Besides this, Amin added, the VMC officials were needed to work on health, sanitation and other civic issues in wake of the monsoon season.
