Ireland's double Paralympic champion Mark Rohan has won a bronze medal at the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Championships in South Carolina.
The MH2 time trial in Greenville was won by USA rider William Groulx, with reigning world champion Luca Mazzone taking silver.
The 16.6km race was two laps of an 8.3km hilly circuit, which favoured the American and Italian riders, leaving a disappointed Rohan battling for third.
Speaking afterwards, a frustrated Rohan said: “I’m disappointed with the bronze. I trained all year for first, and put a lot of work and commitment into it.
“After winning a few gold medals, a bronze isn’t what you train for, you train for gold. I went well on the first lap, but on the second lap I didn’t go well on the hill.
“Flatter courses suit me better. In the World Cup in May I beat Mazzone by 20 seconds, but it was on a flat course, a completely different course.”
Rohan’s is the second Irish medal at the championships, following Eoghan Clifford’s gold medal debut in the C3 time trial yesterday.
