Security agencies are apprehensive of more cross-border tunnels near LOC

Jammu and Kashmir state which has remained vulnerable to militant threats every year, the security agencies have cautioned the district police to guard against fidayeen.

The security agencies have made it clear to the officers about the role of Pak Rangers in pushing these armed militants inside the Indian Territory to carry out subversive activities.

Security and Intelligence agencies briefed the State police chief that a number of militants were waiting across the LoC and IB in Jammu region. The ultras have made infiltration attempts repeatedly, which have been foiled by the security forces.

Security agencies are apprehensive of more cross-border tunnel near International Border and Line of Control starting from Punjab and Jammu border. Army and Boder Security Force ( BSF ) had launched a spot investigation to find out if more such tunnels are active.

Sources in Intelligence agencies told Mirror that an alert has been issued to all the army and BSF units near International Border and Line of Control to keep a watch on any digging of area near the border.

Militant outfits in Pakistan, who are being influenced by the Palestinians for digging the tunnels into Israel, are being trained by the experts of Pakistani Army. These tunnels are of a generally high quality of engineering and construction - with some including electricity and ventilation. The tunnel was being used to smuggle Army, marijuana and other drugs into this side.

Recently, during the patrolling of the area, army troops found the ground caved-in at the forward area along the LoC near Chakla Post in Akhnoor sector.

Army engineers and other technical staff have gone to the area to verify the nature of the cave-in.

On July 27, 2012, a cross-border tunnel was detected after earth caved in at two to three places due to rains near BSF's Chillayari Border Outpost (BOP) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir.

"We have given instructions to the local viligers, who are living near the border or Line of Control to keep vigil," top police official of Jammu and Kashmir Police told Mirror.
