The jam packed session was a huge hit and turned out to be a memorable evening for Delhiites as the singer belted out his evergreen hits to the joy of euphoric music lovers. A voice behind timeless Bollywood hits like ‘Musu Musu Hasi’, ‘Wo Pehli Baar’ (‘Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi’), ‘Kuch Na Kaho’ (‘Kuch Na Kaho’), ‘Suno Na’ (‘Jhankaar Beats’), ‘Jaadu Hai Nasha Hai’ (‘Jism’), ‘Main Aisa Kyun Hoon’ (‘Lakshya’), ‘My Dil Goes Mmmm’(‘Salaam Namaste’), ‘Chand Sifarish’ (‘Fanaa’), ‘Deewangi Deewangi’ (‘Om Shanti Om’), ‘Aao Milo Chalo’ (‘Jab We Met’), ‘Jab Se Tere Naina’ (‘Saawariya’), ‘Bum Bum Bole’ (‘Taare Zameen Par’), upcoming ‘Behti Hawa Sa Tha Who’, ‘All Izz Well ’ (‘3 Idiots’) and ‘Gali Mudhi Ittefaq Se’ (‘Paa’) apart from Indi-Pop chartbusters like ‘Q-Funk’, ‘Aksar’, ‘Tanha Dil’ and ‘Tishnagi;’ Shaan’s repertoire boasts of touching melodies thereby making him a heartthrob of the nation. In a freewheeling conversation with Aman Kanth of Spicezee , a gregarious yet suave Shaan spoke at length about his love for Delhi, its growing music scene and his musical journey. Aman: Hey Shaan, welcome to Delhi. How does it feel to perform live in the city? Shaan: Thank you. It’s very nice to be in Delhi and I am very excited to perform live in the city. Delhi is a nice city, where live performances are popular - the city has popular band culture, which makes it all the more pleasant. Above all, the concert ‘Stand Up For Peace Shaan Se’ is being organised for a special cause by ‘Caritas India’ – a cause that supports peace and harmony, so it makes it all the more special. Aman: From ‘Q-Funk’ to ‘3 Idiots’, how satisfying has been your musical journey? Shaan: (Smiles) It has been a very satisfying and gratifying journey. Looking back in the past, I have good thoughts. It has been a lovely way. As I have been here for a long time, it’s quite nice to see that you still connect with the young generation. Aman: Celebrated for your effortless romantic numbers that appeal to one and all, how do you feel to be the singing sensation of the nation? Shaan: (Almost blushes and breaks into a smile) As you say that I have an effortless singing style, I have always kept my singing style simple yet natural. Well, as far as being the singing sensation of the nation is concerned, it is indeed a very humbling experience.Aman: Doing live events, reality shows, independent projects and Bollywood commitments, don’t you feel overworked at times? Shaan: You see it’s all about time management, maintaining a fine balance between my professional commitments and personal life. I love doing live events, reality shows, private albums and Bollywood playback singing. The moment I feel overworked, I simply run away… (laughs)! Aman: Amongst a live event, reality shows, cutting private albums and Bollywood playback singing, which one does Shaan enjoy the most? Shaan: It has to be live shows as they give you a different high altogether. One gets to interact with the audience. Be it India or abroad, it’s simply amazing the kind of love and enthusiasm one gets on live shows. Aman: Can you tell us more about your upcoming ventures? Shaan: Currently, I am working on a new album which will have love as its theme. The album will be releasing near the Valentine’s Day. Apart from it, I have couple of Bollywood projects, a nice song in ‘Paa’, and then there is ‘Chance Pe Dance’ and ‘3 Idiots.’ Aman: News has it that you are a part of 26/11 anniversary tribute anthem. Can you please elucidate more upon this anthem? Shaan: Yes, I am very much part of the 26/11 anniversary tribute anthem. It is a song composed by Sonu Nigam and it is a consolidated effort by the various artists to honor the victims of 26/11. The anthem will be launched by Mumbai police. Its message is peace - a sense of oneness and standing for unity. Aman: How do you want to be remembered in life, as a pop singer or a Bollywood playback singer? Shaan: (Laughs) Well, I really can’t comment upon this as it’s for the audience to decide. Well, as long as they remember me, it’s perfect. In all, it has been a long journey- a fantastic one!
