The Tamil Nadu Entry into Public Places (Removal of Restriction on Dress) Act, which provided for removal of restriction imposed by recreation clubs and many such organisations on wearing ‘dhoti,’ has been notified in the Gazette of the State government.
The Assembly, a few weeks ago, adopted the Bill in this regard.
On August 21, the assent of Governor K. Rosaiah was granted.
The enactment of the law followed the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association’s decision to deny entry to Justice D. Hariparanthaman, a judge of the Madras High Courtto participate in a function at the Club for wearing dhoti.
