Itanagar: Armed miscreants kidnapped K P Chako, a prominent trader who runs a chain of Best Bakery outlets in the city, on Thursday night. He was abducted from his rented residence in Naharlagun, police said on Friday.
Chako was dragged out of his residence by the miscreants who had come in a Maruti Wagon R registered in Assam. He was fired at when he refused to accompany them, then forced into the car and whisked away, said Capital Complex SP Kuruvilla.
The miscreants also took away Chako’s Mahindra Bolero, he added.
On being alerted, a police team reached the spot and found a pool of blood on the first floor of the building. Police have launched a search operation and issued an alert. Both vehicles were found abandoned on Hoj-Potin road.
Chako hails from Kerala’s Kottyam district and has been trading in Itanagar for the last 30 years.
Meanwhile, an NETV correspondent’s vehicle was stolen in the wee hours of Friday, police said. Yuvraj Mehta, the correspondent, had parked his car in front of the office of The Arunachal Times, police added. An FIR has been lodged at Itanagar police station.
