Miscreants murder lawyer in Mangaldoi

Guwahati: A group of miscreants killed senior advocate Binoy Kumar Ghosh (85) at his residence in Mangaldoi in Darrang district on Friday morning.
The veteran lawyer, who used to live with his wife, was the president of Mangaldoi Chamber of Commerce. He also held a key position in the Mangaldoi Bar Association. He joined Gauhati high court in 1956, shifting to Mangaldoi a few years later.
A group of 15 dacoits is believed to have broken into his house through the kitchen window, according to police.They tied Ghosh and his wife before looting them. “According to his wife, the dacoits suffocated him to death with a pillow,” said Mangaldoi Police.
Locals expressed shock at the incident. “We suspect some police officers are involved in the crime. Ghosh’s residence is equipped with high-tech safety measures. Without the help of an insider, the alleged robbery couldn’t have taken place,” said a local.
Police have picked up maid Ratan Barman for interrogation.
Meanwhile, chief minister Tarun Gogoi ordered the additional chief secretary to probe the incident.
