Say goodbye to wellies as sunshine arrives to warm up damp revellers

The worst of the weather is over, as forecasters have predicted that the sun will arrive and answer the prayers of the Electric Picnic revellers.

Met Eireann has said that the patchy rain which hung over parts of the country yesterday will have mostly dissipated by this afternoon, after what was a cloudy and damp start to the day.

Temperatures today are expected to climb as high as 18C and tomorrow it may even reach 21C as summery conditions return, according to forecaster Joan Blackburn.

"I think there will probably be a good bit of cloud in the morning time today, but it should improve and there is some patchy rain. It should improve generally and it will brighten up," the forecaster said.

"Some sunny breaks will develop, and a lot of places will be mostly dry. Apart from bits and pieces in the morning. Parts of Ulster might have further showers in the afternoon, but other areas will be largely dry. And temperatures will probably be about 15C to 18C."

The sun will continue to shine tomorrow, as it is expected to be dry and calm "in a lot of places".

"East of the Shannon it looks like it will stay dry right through until evening time, with some pleasant sunny spells. In the west in the afternoon it will probably cloud over a bit. Some light rain might move in, but it won't be too heavy or anything like that," Ms Blackburn added.

This will be largely welcomed by the wellington boot-clad festival-goers who endured heavy downpours as they arrived in the Midlands for the Electric Picnic.
