The family of a police constable, who was found killed at his accommodation in Fatehgarh district, has accused Farrukhabad MLA Vijay Singh of getting him murdered. The family members of constable Vijendra Singh Tomar, 54, who began a dharna at Gandhi Statue in Lucknow Friday demanding the naming of the MLA in the FIR or a CBI inquiry into the matter, alleged that Singh had taken Rs 4.75 lakh from Tomar promising that he will get his daughter recruited as a village development officer (VDO), but did not return the money after failing to keep his word.

Tomar, a resident of Mainpuri, was found mysteriously killed inside his accommodation on June 26. He was posted as driver of Fatehgarh Kotwali station officer. Police had lodged a case of murder and robbery against unidentified persons as some belongings of Tomar were also allegedly found missing.

Tomar’s son Rahul said later the family found a letter, which was written by his father in January, in his belongings. Rahul said his father had mentioned in the letter that he had given Rs 4.75 lakh in September last year to the MLA after the latter promised to get his daughter Neetu recruited as VDO.

According to family members, Tomar further wrote that he went to Singh’s residence in January to ask for his money back as his daughter had not been recruited, but the MLA declined. In his letter dated January 24, addressed to Fatehgarh district magistrate and SP, Tomar had alleged that the MLA would be responsible if any accident or incident happened to him, family members claimed.

Rahul said after coming to know about the letter, he had given it to Fatehgarh SP Kripa Shankar and other officers seeking action against Singh but police did not name the MLA in the FIR. Rahul, his mother Saroj, his two sisters and one brother are staging a sit-in. Tomar’s brother Devendra alleged that the police was not acting as the MLA was close to some leaders of the ruling party. He said they had earlier held a protest in Mainpuri but were forcibly removed by the police from there.

When inquired about the matter, IG (Law and Order) Amrendra Sengar did not comment.

Fatehgarh SP Kripa Shankar who is out of town, did not answer the calls on his phone. When contacted, officiating SP RB Chaurasiya said he will call back but did not revert.

Later in the night, a statement from the DGP headquarters said Tomar was allegedly shot dead by some unidentified person and a case of murder and robbery was lodged against unidentified persons after the constable’s son alleged that his father’s two gold rings and a chain were missing from his body. According to the statement, constable’s two gold rings and chain were found in a box and his licensed revolver with one empty and one fired cartridge was also recovered. The DGP headquarters said that the revolver had been sent to Forensic Science Laboratory for examination and its report is awaited. The case is also under investigation, it said without mentioning anything about the family’s allegation against the MLA or the letter purportedly written by the constable.
