SP chief to candidates, office-bearers: Ensure win or face action

Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav too was present during the meeting.

Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav Friday directed both party candidates and ministers in charge to ensure victory in bypolls to one Lok Sabha and 11 Assembly seats in the state or else action will be taken against them.

“These elections are very important for the SP. You have to win them. There should not be any laxity. I will take action if there is any such report,” Mulayam told ministers and SP leaders during a meeting with the candidates at party headquarters in Lucknow.

SP has deputed 23 ministers and other leaders as in charge of the 11 Assembly constituencies which are going to bypolls on September 13. Mulayam has already held two such meetings in this regard.

Mulayam said the BJP was losing its ground, which was evident from the results of recent bypolls in Bihar and Karnataka. “In only three months they have been exposed. The swing is now against them. We have to take this advantage. These bypolls are very important as winning them will send a message in whole country,” Mulayam reportedly said.

Festive offer

The SP chief also asked the candidates if they required any specific leader from any specific caste to campaign in their area. Mulayam is expected to campaign at Mainpuri, the Lok Sabha seat he vacated, on September 7, 8 and 9. His grand nephew Tej Pratap Singh is contesting from the seat, for which senior cabinet minister Shivpal Singh Yadav has been appointed the in-charge.
