Kanpur:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Hamirpur Sadar was on Thursday booked for model code of conduction violation on Thursday. The case was lodged with Kotwali police station.
“Vyas addressed an election meeting on Thursday in
National Inter College during school hours. His audience included students and teachers. An FIR was filed against him in this connection,” SDM Maudaha Ramyash Gautam said.
As per
Election Commission’s guidelines, an election meeting in a school during school hours would be deemed as violation of model code of conduct, Gautam said further.
According to reports, BJP candidate Jagdish Vyas, a teacher at National Inter College in Maudaha, organised a public meeting on the school compound violating the model code. “Students and teachers were forced to listen to his speech. They were hounded out of their classrooms, where Vyas works as a teacher. Such an act also violates the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education Act,” alleged Indra Kumar Ambedkar of
Ambedkar Samaj Party contesting the Hamirpur Sadar seat.
On Thursday around 10.30 am, students, who had come to attend classes, and the teaching staff were asked to assemble in the school playground for Vyas’ meeting, he added.
