Botswana's athletics governing body, the Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) has confirmed they are yet to decide on the fate of former world and Commonwealth Games champion Amantle Montsho.

The 31-year-old has been provisionally suspended from any athletics competitions after testing positive for a banned substance at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.

The BAA spokesperson Ipolokeng Ramatshaba told Xinhua in an interview on Friday afternoon that the association met over the issue earlier on Friday but they did not reach any conclusions.

"We met to discuss Montsho's issue today but we were unable to reach any conclusions, we are still consulting with other stakeholders," he said.

He added that once they reach a decision, they will call a press conference to announce their conclusions.

The meeting comes after the world athletics governing body the International Athletics Association Federation (IAAF) wrote to the BAA instructing them to determine Montsho's fate following the doping incident.

The runner's A sample tested positive for a banned substance, methylhexaneamine. She then requested for a B sample which also tested positive for the banned chemical.

The Commonwealth Games Federation (CFC) then forwarded the results of the tests to IAAF who in turn directed the BAA to decide Montsho's fate.

"The IAAF has written to us regarding the issue and we have to respond to them," Ramatshaba said.

He could not commit to when they will reach a decision but said it will be soon.

Montsho faces a two-year ban from athletics as she has already accepted the doping results and had no intention to challenge them.

Montsho became the first athlete from Botswana to win gold at the world championships in Daegu, South Korea in 2011 after having won gold at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in India. She also won the IAAF Samsung Diamond league in the past two seasons. Endite
