ABBOTABAD:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s candidate for PK-45, Abbottabad-II has demanded prompt disqualification of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MPA Sardar Fareed Ahmed Khan for allegedly concealing assets worth millions.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, PTI candidate Ali Asghar Khan’s counsel Advocate Qazi Abdul Rasheed said Fareed won the PK-45, Abbottabad-II seat in the by-elections on June 6. However, Rasheed claimed Fareed had concealed his agricultural lands measuring 213 kanals and 19 marlas in Boi village while filing his nomination papers.

Moreover, the advocate also accused Fareed of not declaring his Islamabad residence, thus violating articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution. The particular articles pertain to the moral and character requirements of a member of parliament.

In a petition filed to the election commission, the PTI candidate challenged Fareed’s victory and sought his disqualification. The commission formally admitted the petition and sent it to the election tribunal in Abbottabad on August 26. “The next date for hearing is yet to be decided by the tribunal,” Advocate Rasheed told journalists.

The PK-45 seat fell vacant after Sardar Mehtab Abbasi of the PML-N forfeited it following his elevation to the office of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa governor.

Later, PML-N’s Fareed Khan contested in the by-polls and won the seat by securing 27,682 votes, while Ali Asghar Khan came in second with 21,227 votes.

There are 118,765 registered voters in the said constituency.
