Captain John’s move delayed

The ship that housed Captain John’s floating restaurant won’t be moved from Toronto’s waterfront on Friday as planned.

The Jadran’s new owner, James Sbrolla of Aurora-based North American Seafood Exchange, doesn’t yet have court approval to remove it.

He said he’s been making arrangements with the Toronto Port Authority, Toronto Brigantine and Priestly Demolition, though he doesn’t know the exact date for the move. It can’t be towed as a whole and will be taken apart.

“Nothing will happen tomorrow and nothing will happen before next week,” he said on Thursday.

Late last month, the Jadran was sold for $33,501 in a deal which will see it turned into scrap metal.

The ship has been docked at the foot of Yonge Street since 1975. Its restaurant was forced to shut down in June 2012 because of unpaid property taxes and other fees.
