10 reasons why the film industry will never be free of sexual exploitation
Bangalore woke up to a series of sting operations against casting agents and filmmakers being caught asking of sexual favours of aspiring actresses. They have also bragged of being the ones to have launched many top heroines. While some have gotten away just by offering a simple apology, the eerie silence from the rest of the industry alarmingly implies and re-instates the very deep existence of such exploitations.
Here are 10 reasons why the film industry will probably never be free of sexual exploitation...

Many filmmakers, producers etc., believe it is their birthright to exploit the women they offer career ‘opportunities’ to.
Most of the men believe it is the norm in the industry, one that exists through generations.
The above culprits, in all honesty, do not even consider that their actions could be termed as criminal. As far as they are concerned, if the woman is willing, then it amounts to being a consensual affair.
If the woman does not co-operate, she does not qualify for a career in the industry that she probably has the talent for. If she does co-operate, then she gets started on her career but is labeled ‘characterless’.
The information of ‘availability’ of a particular woman becomes content for detailed gossip sessions among men.

Almost every single such sexual advance goes unreported in the film industry.
In the rare cases that do get into public purview, fingers point only at the woman.
The culprit, if caught, offers an apology and that is all that he expected to do as repentance.
Women entering the industry are, more often than not, aware of the possibility of such advances by men – irrespective of the position they hold in the industry. Many of them face it and join the rat race, and treat it like just another job, at times are even known to charge for the same.
There is absolutely no trace of any sort of a sexual harassment cell or welfare association for women in the film industry.
