Levon Aronian defeats Veselin Topalov in Saint Louis

YEREVAN, AUGUST 28, ARMENPRESS. The leader of the Armenian men’s chess team Levon Aronian finished the second round of the Saint Louis tournament with a victory.

Levon Aronian faced with Veselin Topalov in the second round of this major chess tournament. Aronian played with the whites and Topalov surrendered on the 28th move.

At the same time, Hikaru Nakamura rep[resenting the United States and the reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen also ended their match in a tie. While Fabiano Caruana celebrated victory over Maxime Vachier-Lagrave. After the 2nd round, Fabiano Caruana tops the ranking list of the tournament with 2 points. Reigning World Champion Magnus Carlsen returns to Saint Louis to defend his crown at the second annual Sinquefield Cup, scheduled to be held August 27 through September 7.

Last year's event was the strongest chess tournament ever held on U.S. soil. This year, the Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis is bringing the strongest tournament in the history of chess. Six of the top nine players in the world compete in a 10-round, double round robin for the $100,000 top prize and the right to hoist the coveted Sinquefield Cup.

The 2014 installment of the Sinquefield Cup once again features live play-by-play and analysis from three different teams of grandmaster commentators. Spectators have the option to watch the players in the tournament hall or to enjoy commentary at Lester’s sports bar, adjacent to the club, and also to the World Chess Hall of Fame (WCHOF), located directly across the street.
