Faiz, Jyoti, Rohan, Mugdha to get SJAN awards

In-form Vidarbha opener Faiz Fazal, talented athlete Jyoti Chavan, budding shuttler Rohan Gurbani and promising cager Mugdha Amraotkar have been selected for the annual sports awards instituted by the Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and Raisoni Group.

NAGPUR: In-form Vidarbha opener Faiz Fazal, talented athlete Jyoti Chavan, budding shuttler Rohan Gurbani and promising cager Mugdha Amraotkar have been selected for the annual sports awards instituted by the Sports Journalists' Association of Nagpur (SJAN) and Raisoni Group.
Former Railways hockey player Manish Gour will receive the special award as best organizer.
Besides individual sportspersons, Nehru Vidyalaya, Hingna and SK Porwal College will be awarded for their contributions in the field of sports.

The awards ceremony will be held on September 7 at Scientific Hall, Laxmi Nagar at 11 am. Former Indian captain Bishan Singh Bedi will be the chief guest of the function while chairman of Raisoni Group Sunil Raisoni will preside over.
Faiz Fazal: Left-handed batsman so far has played 59 first class matches and scored 4001 runs including seven centuries and 21 half centuries. In the last Ranji season, even after playing less matches he was amongst top five run scorers. In eight matches he scored 845 runs hitting two centuries and six half centuries. He will receive GH Raisoni trophy for best senior sportsman.
Jyoti Chavan: Talented athlete clinched silver medal last year in Junior National Cross Country. In State Championship held at Pune she secured gold medal. In West Zone Championship held at Ranchi, she brought the laurels to the city by winning gold. In recently held Hyderabad Marathon, she emerged winner in half-marathon. She will receive GH Raisoni Trophy for best senior sportswoman.

Rohan Gurbani: For last two years this Centre Point School student has been State Sub-Junior Champion. On two occasions he reached the semifinals in the nationals. He will be honoured with GH Raisoni Trophy for Best Junior Sportsperson.
Mugdha Amraotkar: After a gap of 23 years, city saw one of its basketball players don the national colours. Mugdha became the only hoopster after Manjiri Mandpe to earn the India cap. 16-year-old Mugdha represented India in Fiba Asia Basketball Championship for U-16 women in Colombo, Sri Lanka. The Dharampeth Krida Mandal girl impressed many with her defensive blocks in her maiden international appearance. She will receive Baidyanath Trophy for best junior female player.
Manish Gaur: is a well-known personality in hockey field. He has represented Vidarbha in various state and national tournament. Apart from it for last several years, he has been instrumental in organising All India Dr BR Ambedkar U-16 Hockey Tournament successfully from 2004. He will be honoured with Meeradevi Dasture Trophy.
Hingna's Nehru Vidyalaya will receive Centre Point School trophy for the promotion of sports. Similarly, SK Porwal college will get KC Bajaj Memorial Trophy for their services to the sports.
