State will integrate its schemes with Jan Dhan: Anandiben

Patel added that this would also help empowerment of women and end the ill practice of middlemen in government schemes.

Gujarat Chief Minister Anandiben Patel launched Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana in the state at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar, on Thursday. Patel said the scheme will bring transparency in the system for providing financial benefits of various Central and state government schemes directly to the beneficiaries. It was also attended by Finance Minister Saurabh Patel, Gandhinagar Mayor Mahendrasinh Rana and Chief Secretary Varesh Sinha.

Handing out symbolic banking kits to some of the beneficiaries of this scheme, CM said the Gujarat government will integrate its schemes of providing financial benefits for sakhi-mandals, pregnant women, and construction of toilets in rural areas with the Jan Dhan Yojna so as to help the beneficiaries who have opened bank accounts opened under the scheme. Patel added that this would also help empowerment of women and end the ill practice of middlemen in government schemes.

In Gujarat, there are around 1.22 crore families. Out of them, 86.24 lakh families have bank accounts. Now, under the Jan-Dhan Yojana, it is planned to provide at least one bank account to the rest of the families.

Anandiben Patel also said that in India there is a lot of population (Jan) and a lot of money (Dhan), but the Narendra Modi Government has initiated an admirable attempt to bring them together under the Jan-Dhan scheme.

Chairman and Managing Director of Dena Bank, Ashwini Kumar, said that the new scheme will prove to be a highway for providing banking facility to the lowest strata of the society through which every citizen will be included in the economic development of the country.
