Extraction of ground water in the CRZ area is violation to CRZ notification

Visakhapatnam: Fingers are being pointed at an apartment complex that is coming up in MVP Colony on the violations of CRZ norms. D. Ramana of A Better City of Destiny Economically Weaker Section Welfare Association, has lodged a complaint with the district collector, who is also the chairman of the District Coastal Management Zone Authority (DCM-ZA), to look into the matter of necessary permissions given by the GVMC without obtaining clearance from state level Environment Impact Assessment Authority (SEIAA) since the area where the building is coming up falls under CMZ.

Mr Ramana in his complaint, said that the GVMC had given permission to M/s Navya infracom project (I) Pvt. Ltd. to construct an apartment complex at Chinawaltair village Survey No. 18/5&7, 9/6, 7, 8, 9 & 10/1, 2, 3, 4, 5 which is located in the approved layout of MVP Colony Sector-11, ward No.7 of GVMC, violating several norms.

Extraction of ground water in the CRZ area is violation to CRZ notification and AP High Court Judgment vide. PIL No. 169/2012. Either the applicant or developer did not apply for project clearance as per EIA notification 2006.

No approval from SEIAA of AP PCB and APCZMA. Without the approval of CZMA, EIA and revised approved layout, the GVMC sanctioned permission to apartment recently. The back water tidal wave of Hanumanthvaka creek is not considered at the time of approval as per CRZ notification,†he said and added that in view of these violations he sought the concerned authorities to stop the construction activity and take appropriate action on violators for protection of environment in the coastal area.
