NEW DELHI: Deepak Mohan Spolia, an IAS officer of 1979 batch (AGMUT cadre), took charge as chief secretary of Delhi on Thursday morning.
Spolia, who replaced S K Srivastava, had earlier held the position of principal secretary in various departments of the Delhi government. He was appointed chief secretary of Delhi in December 2012. He was removed from the post in January, 2014 when then CM Arvind Kejriwal chose to appoint S K Srivastava.
Spolia was then posted as financial commissioner & CMD Delhi Finance Commission.
The move to replace Srivastava with Spolia comes in the backdrop of protests by BJP MLAs over delayed clearance of MLA funds. for which they blamed senior officials including the CS.
Moreover, Spolia's reappointment came just three days after a BJP delegation led by party's Delhi chief Satish Upadhyay met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and complained against the rigid attitude of certain officials in the city administration.
