Boy stabbed: Bassi orders probe into allegations of police inaction

Bassi said the PCR van immediately rushed him to the hospital as soon as it reached the spot.

Delhi Commissioner of Police B S Bassi on Thursday ordered a probe into allegations of delay in police action, after an 18-year-old boy was stabbed to death in Dakshinpuri area of Southeast Delhi on Tuesday evening.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed us to carry out a probe and we will investigate the matter thoroughly,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) P Karunakaran said.

According to police, the victim, Raju Pandey, had gone to the market for lunch when he reportedly got into a scuffle with the 19-year-old accused over a sum of money. The accused allegedly took out a knife and stabbed Raju.

Pandey’s mother alleged that police did not rush her son to hospital. If they had, his life would have been saved, she said.
Coincidentally, a 32-second video, shot by an onlooker on a mobile phone, showed the youth lying in a pool of blood and a policeman asking him something instead of rushing him to a hospital.

Bassi, however, said the PCR van immediately rushed him to the hospital as soon as it reached the spot.

Festive offer

“There was no delay in taking the victim to the hospital. We have sought video footage of the incident from news channels and an inquiry will be conducted,” the police commissioner said.
