Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions has formally announced the cast of their film, Brothers, a remake of the 2011 American sports drama, Warriors. Starring Jackie Shroff, Akshay Kumar, Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez in the lead, the film is scheduled to take off next month.
“That’s the plan, now that everything has been finalised,” said Karan Malhotra, the film’s director, who revealed that the film is based completely in Mumbai.
“It will be filmed on sets and real locations in Mumbai and we hope to tap several locations and give a fresh perspective to the city. We are charting out a schedule and will be shooting across the city in places like Dahisar and Byculla. The nature of the script is such that we will be shooting two days at one location, four days at another and so on,” informed Malhotra.
The film, he says, is not about boxing but mixed martial arts (comprising kickboxing, taekwondo among others.) and both the actors will be training for the sport extensively. “In fact, the actors have already started training with an instructor from abroad. But, I would like to reveal his name at a later date and talk more about the film after it takes off,” said Malhotra, saying that Kumar is going to be fantastic because the film will portray his strength as a martial arts person at the best level possible.
Brothers is co-produced by Dharma Productions, Lionsgate and Endemol and is slated to release on October 2, 2015.
