BHOPAL: A middle-aged man from a village in Bhopal's outskirts may not be as lucky as powerful UP minister, Azam Khan, who mobilized the entire police machinery to search for his stolen buffaloes. But he was equally passionate about his cattle flock.
After he found three of his 10 buffaloes missing, he launched a search operation and tracked them a few km away and even got five youths arrested for taking away a chunk of his herd.
The incident happened in Kadhaiya village on Tuesday.
He handed the five buffalo thieves to the nearby Gunga police. They were booked for theft and two of them were taken on a remand as they were part of a professional gang of buffalo thieves. Cops claim they could give leads in other cases of cattle thefts.
The man, Nannu Lal, 55, had left his 10 buffaloes on the fields for grazing. The animals usually return by noon. But when he realized, only seven were back, he swung into action.
He walked 3 km to neighbouring Kala Pipla village and found five youths fleeing with his three buffaloes. He ran and nabbed them with help of local villagers and handed them over to police.
The accused were identified as Raees, Masoom, Nazeem, Khanna and Aleem. Police said all youths are in age-group 20-25 and hail from Sehore district. Rahees and Nazeem have been taken on police remand till August 28 to get leads on other cases of buffalo thefts. Close to a dozen cases are pending in Gunga police station, officials said.
