Escobar hitman ‘Popeye’ leaves Colombian jail

John Jairo Velasquez, who boasted of killing more than 300 people, is freed on parole after 22 years in prison.

Colombia has freed one of its most notorious killers, John Jairo Velasquez, an accomplice of famed drug baron, Pablo Escobar.

The release of Velasquez, known by his nickname “Popeye”, has sharply divided public opinion in the country because of his reported direct role in the deaths of 300 people and involvement in thousands of others.
