Lieutenant-Governor Najeeb Jung on Wednesday conducted a review meeting of eight departments, including Prisons, Delhi Fire Services, Drugs Controller, Food Safety, and Registrar of Cooperative Societies.
While the Department of Prisons highlighted the work done to set up biometric attendance, repair work carried out in toilets, and upgrade of facilities, Mr. Jung instructed the Home Secretary to explore the possibility of setting up kiosks for sale of Tihar products at Connaught Place, Dilli Haat, and Delhi Secretariat.
The meeting of Forensic Science Laboratory revealed the need to address issues of pendency and need for specialised staff and it was decided that three Regional Forensic Science Laboratories would be established at Rohini, Sayurpur and Sheikh Sarai.
Mr. Jung suggested awareness programmes to help prevent fires and appreciated the Delhi Fire Service for having made field inspections a policy. The department heads told the LG that small vehicles such as motorcycles and jeeps have been acquired to rescue burning cars or to enter congested areas .
The Drugs Controller presented a report on inspection visits to Bhagirath Palace and Naharpur, Rohini, in which three licences of dealers have been cancelled, 13 suspended, and prosecution launched against one stockist.
During inspections at retail outlets near AIIMS, GTB, LNJP and Safdarjung hospitals, 12 licences have been suspended and 19 show cause notices issued, said officials, adding that several samples have been collected and sent for inspection.
It was decided at the meeting that Nehru Girls Hostel and Nehru Boys Hostel at Dilshad Garden needed better facilities and the PWD was asked to take up repair work immediately. Mr. Jung also directed that the department must explore the possibility of setting up basic gymnasium at the hostels.
