‘Flexi banner war’ breaks out between two TDP groups

August 27, 2014 11:22 pm | Updated November 17, 2021 06:51 am IST - KHAMMAM:

Even as speculation continues about the exodus of several key leaders from the TDP to the TRS, a ‘flexi banner war’ broke out between two groups in the TDP’s district unit.

Close on the heels of the display of flexi banners by the followers of the TDP senior leader Tummala Nageswara Rao, urging him to join the mission to build ‘Nava Telangana’, flexi banners praising the TDP leadership sprang up at various localities in Khammam on Wednesday.

A flexi banner with the picture of party founder N.T. Rama Rao hailing the party leadership emerged at the entrance of the TDP district office in the name of the ‘loyal cadre’ of the party. “Let us strive to realise the ideals of NTR and uphold values in politics unfazed by the desertion of a few leaders,” the banner at the party office read.

The TDP district office witnessed a flurry of activity on Wednesday with scores of party cadres flocking to the office to participate in a meeting to discuss ‘organisational matters’.

Addressing party cadres, several middle rung leaders of the TDP alleged that a few party leaders were contemplating joining the ruling party after enjoying prime positions in the TDP and party-led governments in the past.

Meanwhile, speaking to media persons here, former MP Nama Nageswara Rao asserted that the TDP had a strong cadre-based organisational strength.

Barring the general elections, the TDP emerged triumphant in all the elections including MPTC and ZPTC polls held recently in the district, he added. He evaded a reply to a question on the speculation about the ‘imminent exodus’ of a few party leaders to the TRS.

On the plight of farmers hit by the erratic monsoon and power supply, Mr. Rao demanded that the TRS government immediately waive farm loans, ensure sanction of fresh crop loans and assure power supply to the agriculture sector.

The government should implement these concrete measures without any further delay to bail out farmers, he said.
