Jamshedpur: Trouble broke out at Jamshedpur Women’s College here on Wednesday after a section of BBA(bachelor of business administration) students protested against the decision of Kolhan University (KU) to give them B.Com(bachelor of commerce) certificates.
As part of their protest, the students locked the college gate for some time and raised slogans against KU vice-chancellor R P P Singh when the latter arrived at the institute.
They also allegedly tried to deflate the tyres of the VC’s vehicle.
The students claimed that though they had been enrolled into the BBA course, they were given B.Com degree certificates.
“We want BBA certificates. At the time of admission, the college had said we were being enrolled to the three-year BBA course (2011-2014),” a girl student claimed.
On the other hand, Singh said he would not comment on the controversy till he looks into the papers related to the admission process.
He added, “The students will get justice if the papers support their claim.” He expressed the hope that the students would soon “realize their mistake and cool down gradually”.
Jamshedpur Women’s College principal, Sumita Mukherjee, was not available for comment but college staff overwhelmingly condemned the unruly behaviour of the students. “If they have any complaint they should have put forward their grievances in a disciplined manner,” said a source in the college.

However, the Bistupur police station in-charge, Jeetender Kumar confirmed that “no untoward incident happened at the college and no student has been arrested under any charge,” said
A section of B.Com graduates had convened a meeting in clandestine earlier in the day and decided to gherao the VC during his visit to the college.
